The Royal Cambodian Navy and Air Force members shared medical techniques with 3rd Medical Battalion sailors at Ream Naval Base in Sihanoukville.
The battalion is in the Kingdom for the Cambodia Medical Exercise 2012, which aims to boost military relations between the US military, the Cambodian government medical personnel and the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces. The exercise allows both countries to do joint medical operations, promote good will and boost interoperability.
The sailors shared their specific knowledge about types of fractures, intravenous procedures, casualty carries, splints, splinting and other essential medical techniques.
The battalion brought supplies and equipment like stretchers, defibrillators, gurneys, suture materials and bandages for the training exercises.
The new equipment and techniques will be used by Cambodian medical personnel and service members in future emergencies.
“The training will assist (the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces) to recognize key small details during medical situations they encounter, said Petty Officer 3rd Class Jia Liu, a hospital corpsman in the battalion. “This will keep both the patients and medical personnel safe.”
